I bought this antenna to mount it in my attic and split it to the cable jacks throughout my home. I decided on it because it was very inexpensive, received VHF in addition to UHF, and came with an amplifier. This antenna will require some positioning magic, but when you find the sweet spot it's great. I had to reposition the mount once in my attic, then I ran 10ft of cable to the amplifier (which is necessarily that far away to reach the only outlet i have up there), then 50ft of cable back out to an outdoor box the splits to the individual outlets in the home. Signal strength on our lower VHF frequencies is moderate, and the transmitters are 28 miles away. UHF reception is excellent, and it receives every station in my area. The mount on more recent models has a flexible arm instead of an articulated arm. It's a decent mounting system, especially for attic installs.

This certainly beats buying a more expensive, bulkier antenna sans mount and then dishing out more money for an amplifier. It is just shy of the 5 star for me simply because its VHF reception was a little picky.GE 24769 Outdoor Antenna for Digital HDTV Futura

I did not do all of my homework when I bought this antenna. For what it is, it does a very good job of receiving UHF television signals, but I didn't realize the number of stations transmitting DTV on VHF frequencies. The antenna was easy to mount, came with very good hardware, was well constructed, but does not receive VHF signals well at all (it's not designed to).

Antenna has good gain. I can receive weak signals. Works as It should.

Don't forget that this antenna is directional. It must be directed to broadcast source.

There was no manual in the box, but you can download it from Philips site.

Antennaweb dot org page can help you to predict how much channels you can expect to receive and where you need to direct antenna.

Buy this if:-

1. You install satellite dishes for money ( Highly recommend it )

2. You are a DIY enthusiast, love gadgets and have some extra bucks to spend around.

This product will save your time and make your work a bit more enjoyable. It will even make you feel a bit more of a professional in your work :P

When you need to align the dish to get the best signal quality, you will need a TV and a Digital satellite receiver connected to that dish.. Well, this device will replace both with its built-it Digital tuner and beautiful LCD.

It does a bit more than just that. It gives an incremental beep sound for signal quality.

There's more to say about this device but i need more time. Will update in a while.

Oh and there are two other models..

If you're like me, you've got a "vintage" dish setup that works just fine ...and you're not ready to get the local Dish "technicians" to install a new system (which might take weeks) ...and you like "doing it yourself". One of the LNB's on my original "Quad" failed and so we lost reception of one of the satellites needed to receieve all our channels. My dish was relatively easy to access and swapping this LNB was dirt-simple (as long as you don't physically move/knock out of alignment the dish itself). Although I replaced an antennae on my roof (so I was up on a ladder) installing this product was simple. I recommend assembling as much as possible on the ground and then take the antennae on the roof, bringing tools afterwards. Older antennaes are difficult to remove if they've been up for a while.

I installed the new antennae because I also installed an HD converter box for an older TV and the HD signals were dropping or pixelating. This antennae solved the problem immediately, bringing in all available broadcast channels. I occasionally have an issue but usually it is minor. I can't believe how poorly this works. I bought it before there were any reviews - my mistake. It simply doesn't work. No matter how much we adjust or move the antenna, it doesn't pull a signal. The old rabbit ears we had were much better - and cost about 1/3 the price of this. I was considering purchasing a new Philips LCD tv, but after my experience with this, I will rethink that. This antenna pulled in stations very well in a difficult reception area..The major problem with it that it is built and designed with thin and fragile aluminum..less than a month after installing it, an 18" snowstorm bent it in half and it needed major strapping with angle iron to straighten it up in order to make it work. Warning, this device may work in the continental US but is not useful in Hawaii. The size of the dish determines the strength of the signal it can receive. Although the 110 and 119 satellites are strong enough, the 129 HD satellite is very weak in Hawaii and is not possible to pick up with this dish. Also, in general, if you have room for more than one dish, it is much easier to point separate dishes at specific satellites then to try to do everything with one satellite dish. I think the key to any antenna rotor is to, hello?, rotate it occasionally. I didn't do this with the replacement unit (first unit was defective), which froze up. However, Philips North America replaced that with another that has been in service for over a year in the New England weather.

Since this is not a high-end rotor, it lacks a substantial wind brake. That is what the "Initial[ize]" function is for. After strong winds I always intialize it back to true north; my azimuth settings are then accurate again.

Recommended.

First the good. I installed this antenna in my attic with an AP-8700 amplifier. It immediately brought in all of my locals and their sub-channels with great signal strength. The farthest tower from me is probaly 30-40 miles. I have 3 TV sets running off this antenna and it works great. I have no complaints now that it is up (see next).

Now the bad:

-The instructions are terrible. It's not that difficult to put together and set up, but don't expect the instructions to help you get there.

-I actually went through two of these antennas. The first one shipped from Amazon missing some parts. I exchanged it using Amazon's return process (which is great by the way), but the second unit arrived missing the same parts. I called Winegard and they were aware of several units that went out with missing parts and sent me replacements 2 day.

The two bad items are the reason I rated this 4 stars. Both Winegard and Amazon's customer service were great which is why they didn't get a lower rating. This dish works great. Just plug it in and boom!!! you get all of your satellite signals with no hassel. When you change from one satellite to the other it is seamless. I do however have a slight problem with the power cord not making a good connection. Most everytime I connect the power cord I have to wiggle the connector to get a connection. It is not a big problem and the satellite dish has worked everytime. Set up is easy and quick. The SWM is the latest HD LNB setup for DTV customers. Signal reception is slightly better over the previous 5LNB and now you only need 1 line out from the satellite LNB's (no matter how many recievers you have) with the power for the LNB's no longer coming from the reciever. It is much easier to split the signal to several recievers and initial alignment is a bit more difficult for the DIYers. The picture on this item of the LNB is not of the SWM LNB. The middle picture is the AT9 also called the "Side-Car" model which performs exactly like the newer Slimline model. There's no difference between the two other than one is a little more prettier than the other an the reflector on the Slimline model is slightly bigger which may or may not yield a better signal strength. On my roof on a short mast I just barely get about 12 channels. Unfortunately the boneheads who broadcast here in San Diego put their towers on 3 mountains at 3 different directions from the center of the city so no matter which way you point the antenna you have at least one weak signal or no signal. Worked almost as well propped up in my bedroom. Barely worked in my attic. Go figure. I suspect it's just not a very good antenna. This antenna works well enough for me, at least for now.

I have a Winegard MS-2002 in my attic that is wired to my main TV set. Winegard MS-2002 HDTV Antenna without Cable It works great, and it gives me something to compare this against.

I bought this antenna as a quick-and-cheap way to get an OTA signal in a bedroom without having to install a splitter on my main antenna and run coax through the walls. I'll probably still do that in the spring but didn't want to muck around in the winter.

Most of the transmitters near me are 17 miles away in one direction. One, unfortunately, broadcasts on channel 7, so I needed an antenna that can handle VHF. The others stations are 22 miles away, so I needed an antenna that isn't strictly unidirectional. This antenna meets my needs.

However, it took a lot of trial and error for me to find the best location & orientation. As others have noted, the power cord is too short to mount the antenna near the ceiling without using an extension cord, and the plastic base is less than stellar. But installing it was a lot faster than running coax cable, so I'm happy enough for now. It isn't wonderful, but it works.

This product did not work at all. It could be it was broken, but the the TV signal was not strengthened at all by this product. I recently bought an HDTV where I planned to split the incoming cable, one to my cable box and one straight to the TV. The cable box eventually feeds back into the TV via HDMI. I need the cable box (Scientific Atlanta 3250HD) to view premium channels and cable HD channels, but I prefer the local Hi-Def channels minus the cable box. I was worried that by using a regular splitter the cable signal would suffer more than I'd like, so after reading all the reviews on this item I gave it a try.

Needless to say it was a great decision. I did a test where I set everything up via unamplified Radio Shack splitter first, then I fed everything through the 2-Port Bi-Directional Cable Amplified Splitter. The difference was huge. There was a major difference in my HD channels especially in terms of quality WITH the amplified splitter. Without it, I wasn't very happy with the quality of picture. It also increased the quality greatly of the regular cable fed straight into the TV, which was already very good.

If you have a similar situation I would definitely spend the $30, you won't be sorry. Obviously the biggest part of the HD experience is getting the best picture with what you have, and this item helped me acheive that. So now if I'm watching anything local I watch through the cable line directly fed into the TV, everything else goes through the box. I'm telling you the quality through the box is awesome now. Without this amp, its average.

I guess if you have to have a Con, it would be that you need to provide your own coax cable to power the amp, but that wasn't a big issue wit me. When I picked up this antenna from the Wal-Mart in North Augusta, S.C.; I was prepared to be disappointed.

Well, guess what? Instead of being disappointed, I was ecstatic!

With the rabbit ears, I was unable to receive WFXG's digital signal. With the SDV2940/27, I was able to receive the Augusta, Ga. Fox affilate in the storage building, where the roof is made of wood instead of metal. I was actually able to watch the Daytona 500! :)

Not only was I able to receive WFXG's signal clearly, I was also able to receive WLTX's signal clearly as well -- and News 19 is over 55 miles away in Columbia.

Even though it is solely for UHF, it also picked up the tail end of the high VHF signals just as clearly as it does UHF. WRDW and my12 are on the tail end of Hi VHF (12) and I am able to pick it up when there is very little electrical noise.

I am also able to pick up WRLK-HD and WACH-HD on occasion.

On Saturday, I purchased some RG-6 cable to use with it from the Target store in Aiken, S.C.

I would recommend this antenna to people living in the CSRA in Georgia and South Carolina, as well as those who live in the Coastal region of South Carolina, and the coastal plains of Georgia and North Carolina.

I would not recommend this antenna if:

1. There is a low-band VHF signal in your area. WCES is on RF channel 6 in my area and this antenna does not pick that up.

2. You want a high-band VHF channel and you are more than 38 miles away from it.

3. If you live outside of the areas I recommended -- the Central Savannah River Area, the Coastal region of South Carolina and the coastal plain areas of Georgia and North Carolina.Philips SDV2940/27 UHF Digital and Analog Indoor/Outdoor TV Antenna

The Zenith "Silver Sensor" antenna is a wonderful addition to my no frills old 12 inch Orion television with only one port. Eleven stations including 3 versions of the local PBS channel and two network stations come in very clearly. I bought the antenna thinking that it was hopeless that I would be able to watch anything without cable since we live in an isolated mountainous area. Most of the channels, not available with my cable, come in at 90 - 100 percent in sound and video. At worst, you just have to turn the antenna slightly or move it closer to a window. The antenna looks like it is from a funky early sci-fi setting and I have it positioned above the TV and near a south facing window. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would try this antenna again in other locations.Philips SDV2780 TV Indoor Antenna (Black)
